TVM V-Day Performance

Picture
BaMatMaBat is thrilled to once again be a part of V-Day: Eve Ensler's annual 3 month global campaign to end violence against women. This year, we are proud to be working hard to deliver for you an unforgettable performance of Ensler's "The Vagina Monologues," as well as a couple of other features to complete the evening. Last year's performance was so successful, we decided to go in for 3 performances this year: 2 in Jerusalem and 1 in Tel Aviv. The Vagina Monologues is an Obie Award-winning episodic play written by Eve Ensler which ran at the off-Broadway Westside Theatre. Ensler originally starred in the production; when she left the play it was recast with three celebrity monologists. The production has been staged internationally, and a television version featuring Ensler was produced by HBO. In 1998, Ensler launched V-Day, a global non profit that has raised over $50 million for women's anti-violence groups through benefits of The Vagina Monologues and her other pieces.

Street Theater in Tanzania

Picture
All groups demonstrated a genuine appreciation for and affinity to the street theater method. They expressed communal and personal concerns such as HIV/AIDS, unwanted pregnancies, orphans, environment, poverty, living conditions, education, opportunities, etc. They surrendered to the notion of “free will” and, through drama, explored alternative options and ways to prevent untoward outcomes. They demonstrated goals and ambitions and worked out how to achieve them. The participants conveyed motivation, enthusiasm, and drive. They learned about available options and services as well as the ramifications of decision making and to be accountable for themselves (taken from report summary).
